A Look at Wedding Music
By Jake Rose

Setting the mood at a wedding is key to its success. You want to say so much without going overboard and having the event be the cause of jokes for weeks and even months to come. There is a lot that can be said with the arrangements, the location, the guest list and what not, but one of the most important aspects is the music.

Music sets the mood wherever it is used. Whether in movies, plays, commercials or celebrations, the music is what helps the people get into the environment. A wedding is no different. A good selection can aid the wedding while a bad will hinder the experience for those gathered. And a great selection will keep people glowing.

Weddings are nice celebrations for the lucky couple, but let’s state the obvious: they’re really for the friends and family to celebrate the situation. It’s a way to show off to others and really celebrate a happy time in two people’s lives. It’s a way to allow the family and friends to experience something from the marriage.

Most people think weddings need to promote one thing: love. Love is a key part to it, but let’s clarify something first. Love isn’t the only thing a marriage represents. It represents friendship, trust, hope, comfort, and so many things. Love is completely different from these and so just one thing to look at for music. Plenty of love songs will be played, but there needs to be more variety.

I’m not saying you need to put in such a variety that it appears more like an hour of music an untalented DJ would play. There needs to be some focus and unity. It has to be about the couple being married and how it reflects them in more ways than just the sappy love songs that get overplayed with no real meaning behind them. You need stuff that will keep your family and friends occupied and having a good time. Even if they aren’t directly listening to it, the music in the background is noticeable to the mind and will play heavily with their interaction during the event.

There are other things than love songs that need to be at a wedding. It is important to gather emotion from other things. There should be friendship and more bonding type of songs, both for the couple and for the guests. Good all around feel good songs to lift up the spirits and not just focus on romantic feelings. There should be more exciting songs, not necessarily anything extreme or heavy in nature, but stuff that makes people dance a little wild and let their energy out.

The key here is that weddings are important and unique events. They have to bring out the character of who is being married. Do different things, try different songs, and just have fun. It’s a celebration of hope and devotion, not just love. Let the music speak more than words can and set the environment that will keep the guests happy and the night memorable.

5 Ways To Avoid Wedding Planning Woes
By Rose Smith

You ve been planning your wedding for months. You ve met with vendors, visited locations, made some decisions, and feel that your wedding plans are finally coming together. How do you know that the people and services you are looking at booking are reputable and will actually provide what s been promised? Here are 5 things to watch out for when dealing with the wedding industry.

1. Check On Your Vendor Through The Wedding Associations

Some vendors appear to be oblivious to what you desire. You may end up with the wrong flowers or be short staffed at your dinner reception - even though you specified how many guests will be attending. To avoid mix-ups check on your choice of vendor with the Association of Bridal Consultants, the Leading Caterers of America and the American Disc Jockey Association before signing any contracts. If the wedding professional you have chosen is not a member of any of these associations, you should definitely get some reference names and numbers of previous clients and call to see if they were satisfied with the service before booking.

2. Don t Rely On Another Wedding Professional s Recommendation

It s quite common to ask your wedding planner or some other industry professional for recommendations on services that you ll need. For example, you may ask the reception manager at the hotel to recommend a cake decorator or a florist - and they will be more than happy to provide you with a list of vendors. However, the problem with this is that more often than not, these referrals are based on kickbacks.

The fact is, many vendors pay a fee to be on the “preferred” list for various location venues. You need to be aware that the caterer, photographer, or whoever the location manager is recommending has most likely paid an annual fee or commission percentage to be put on the list. Unfortunately, being “on the list” does not ensure that you will get good service. Once again, you need to get personal references and do your homework on any businesses recommended by other wedding industry vendors.

3. Anything That Has The Word “Wedding” Attached To It Will Cost You 20% to 30% More

This is important to note - once the word “wedding” is spoken out loud, the cost of any service immediately jumps. Take the time to make a few phone calls with each wedding service you are looking at. First get a price based on a wedding event, then have someone else call a day or two later to get a price based on just a party. You will probably be surprised at the difference in quotes. You could then show up at the vendor s place of business and negotiate the lower “party” price for your wedding.

4. Are You Paying For A Slice of Cake - Or A Thin Sheet Of Paper?

Quotes for wedding cakes can range all over the place. Obviously, the more elaborate the cake, the higher the cost to make it and you are usually charged “by the slice.” The problem is - how large is a slice? Slice fees can range anywhere from 75 cents to $20 each, yet that $20 piece of cake could be paper thin. When ordering your wedding cake, make sure that the “slice size” is specified in your contract.

This brings up another question. What if you re getting a friend or family member to make your cake? That should eliminate the “per slice” fee, should it? Not so. The reception location will usually charge you a serving fee based on the number of slices cut and served. Once again, make sure you check up on all these extra details so you aren t surprised with additional charges.

5. All The Little Details Add Up To Big Expenses

You have to be on the ball when booking any wedding services. Ask about every little detail, particularly what is… and is not… included within the services that you are looking at booking. For instance, at your chosen reception venue find out if all the tablecloths, cutlery, glasses and napkins are included within the price quoted or are these extra? Let s say you ve rented chair back covers. Did you know that there s a good chance that you will be charged an additional fee to actually have them ironed and placed on the chairs? Another example: the staff will set the tables, but you may get dinged a service fee for the staff to place your centerpieces on each table as well.

Most couples realize the importance of looking over their contracts with a fine-tooth comb to make sure everything that has been agreed upon is listed within the contract. However, how many of us actually think to look for anything not included? It s human nature to make common sense assumptions - you re paying the rental fee for cloth napkins, therefore it s assumed they will be nicely folded at each place setting. Will they? Or do you need to pay extra for a “folding fee?”

Be diligent in your research and take the time to get answers to clarify what things may not have been included - and therefore not mentioned by the vendor. It s the only way to ensure that your wedding celebration doesn t become a frustrating “surprise” event that unexpectedly blows your wedding budget sky-high.

A Honeymoon Like No Other
By Vlady Peters

When it comes to choosing a honeymoon destination it’s usually sandy beaches and blue waters here, a historical sight there, or a luxurious pampering from morning till night somewhere else.

The other day, though, looking through the various web sites, I came across a honeymoon destination which must surely be the most unique of them all.

It’s available only four months out of every year, and then it disappears from existence. Eight months later it’s back again. For four months again.

The Ice Hotel of Quebec, Canada, welcomes guests only from January to April. The rest of the year the hotel ceases to exist because its whole structure is made from 400 tons of ice, and 12,000 tons of snow and needs the winter snows to bring it to life. A work of art in itself, it takes five weeks to erect, has impressive 18 foot ceilings, and walls adorned with original paintings made out of ice. It never repeats itself, so every stay is bound to amaze.

The hotel includes an ice chapel in which the couple can pledge their troth, a cinema in which to while away an hour or two, and an exhibition room with ice exhibits such as paintings, statues, and furniture all made out of snow and ice.

Apart from the fact that the materials used in the building of the hotel aren’t the usual brick and mortar, you can still sit around a real fire, though when snuggling into bed you’ll probably find a deer pelt and a sleeping bag made for two. And when toasting each other with champagne, you’ll be doing it with ice goblets instead of just the usual crystal.

For something to do there’s dog-sledding and all the other snow-oriented sports, as well as hot-air ballooning. At night you can visit the night club where your drink will never run out of ice.

Needless to say, being a hotel completely made of ice, it is a bit chilly, so if you and your partner decide to exchange your wedding vows at the ice hotel, you might like to rent a fur cape or coat so that you can be warm as well as good-looking. And don’t be worried about missing out on your wedding photographs or flowers, or limousines. The hotel might be made of ice, but it has a warm heart. You’ll be provided with all the things you would normally expect on your wedding day. Just ask.

A Closer Look at Divorce Records
By Mike Selvon

After divorces are finalized, the court will keep the official copy of all divorce records. When a divorced person wants to obtain a record, they will need to find out where to go and what is involved in getting a certified copy. The process is not as cumbersome as the actual divorce, and should only take a little time to complete.

Getting re-married can be a wonderful experience for a divorced person, but it might require that individual to obtain their divorce records. States will have different requirements in terms of what documentation they will need before issuing a marriage certificate, so you need to check with the County Clerks Office beforehand.

There are other situations that require a divorce settlement, such as when someone is applying for immigration into the country. Federal or state laws will dictate what is needed during this process, and you will have to obtain divorce records from wherever the divorce took place.

When you want to obtain a divorce record, you should begin by going to the Vital Records Office for the state where the divorce was legalized. Even if you move to another state after your divorce, the former state you lived in will be where the document is kept. You can usually call the office or visit it personally to obtain the necessary applications you will need to fill out beforehand. Applications can vary from state to state based on their own divorce laws, but most likely they will all require some form of payment and proof of identification.

There may be a waiting period before you can receive a copy of your divorce settlement, and the timing will depend on whether the copy is to be certified or uncertified. Most of the time a record of the divorce settlement will need to be certified before it is accepted by another party. Because divorce seems to be a more common occurrence in today s society, there are several web sites available to help you find divorce records.

Some of the most popular are through a state s Vital Records web site or Federal records web sites. Most people-finder search engines will have a section that allows you to search for a divorce record. But you should remember these all require a fee, and are not considered a free service to the public.

Divorce records are the conclusion to all divorce settlements taking place in a court of law. When you apply for certain things, such as a marriage certificate or immigration, you may need to obtain your former divorce decree. To be on the safe side of things, it would be prudent to request a copy of your divorce record to keep on file.

6 Ways to Save Money on Wedding Invitations
By Dulce Azogue

Inviting your possible guests on your wedding day can be costly. You have to give them traditional wedding cards to inform them of the date and venue, and possibly those cards are made of elegant or high quality papers and other materials that might cost a lot. If your goal is to save money, then you should think of cost - effective alternatives to send out cards to your guests. Here are some tips.

1. Make a list of possible guests first. Invite only your closest friends and relatives so you’ll know the number of cards to make. Sometimes cards are made in excess and are thrown away.

2. No RSVP, please. Who cares about RSVP cards? Chances are they’ll just tell you in person that they will attend, so don’t include RSVP cards. This is especially true when they are your closest friends and co - workers whom you see everyday.

3. Have a friend, relative or hobbyist make DIY cards. If you know someone talented in making cards, then have her come up with a design instead of hiring a company doing that for you.

4. Print them yourself. Just use a cheap ink and your own printer. No one will notice anyway, or they won’t care too much.

5. Send them ecards. Send your relatives living far away an ecard and add an audio to it. You will save on postage stamps and won’t take too long, too. Tell them to reply early.

6. Shop on cheap materials. Go to local bookstores and see those cheap papers and laces. Compare prices of these materials before making a decision.

Think of more ways to save more money on wedding invitations by being creative and delegating tasks to the people you know. Save on other things, too, like wedding cakes, music, photography and attire. You don t have to spend a lot to make your special day a success
