Wedding Videography - 5 Questions You Can Ask
By Ronald Thomas

While hiring a still photographer is usually a given for most weddings, hiring a
wedding videographer is sometimes considered more of a luxury. There’s no doubt
about it, weddings can be expensive and sometimes the cost of a videographer can
seem high and well, cousin Billy just got a new camcorder

But be careful, because along with shooting your wedding, Cousin Billy will probably
also be hitting the bar and maybe hitting on that really pretty bridesmaid because
Billy will be there to have fun, after all you invited him, you didn’t hire him.

So if you really want a video of your wedding (and things like the first dance and the
cake cutting and the bouquet toss,) the only way to make sure you get one is to hire
a professional wedding videographer.

If you do decide to hire a videographer you should get the most for your money and
you should find someone whose style matches your own. Below are the top 5
questions I think it’s most import to ask (besides price.) I’ve put this list together
based on what I actually do in preparing to shoot a wedding. It should give you an
idea of how we go about shooting a wedding as well as help you to get what you
really want out of a videographer.

5 Questions You Can Ask

1: Ask if they use broadcast quality cameras. This can make a big difference in how
your video looks. In the trade these are usually referred to as “3-chip cameras.” Any
serious wedding videographer will have these. Also, find out how many cameras
they’ll use to “cover” the wedding. I generally use two at the ceremony and one at
the reception, though for big weddings I’ll use two at the reception as well.

2: Ask if editing is included. I always edit my videos. Handing over a tape that I’ve
shot and dubbed without touching just isn’t an option for me. Editing makes a
better video for you and allows me to try a little harder during the reception to get
really cool shots - because I know if something doesn’t work, I don’t have to use it.
But of course editing is more work and costs more, so if you’re getting a deal that
seems too good to be true, ask about this one.

3: Ask to see a DVD or tape of their work. I don’t put clips on my website but I do
encourage potential clients to ask for a DVD demo reel. A lot of people hire
someone based on the one-minute clips of video they’ve posted to their website. A
video may look great in a small box on your computer monitor, but what will it look
like on your plasma screen at home? This is also a really good way to see what the
videographer’s style of shooting is. If you find a videographer you like but you’ve
seen an element on someone else’s demo reel that you want to include, don’t be
afraid to request it, most of us are always looking for new ideas.

4: Ask if they use wireless microphones for the ceremony. Again, this is something
any professional wedding videographer will have but it can make a HUGE difference.
I always put a microphone on the groom and one the officiant, minister or rabbi, if I
can. That way I can be sure to get the audio of the entire ceremony crisp and clean
on tape. Since I don t put one on the bride, by using two this way I can be sure to
get her voice no matter which way she’s facing.

5: Ask how they approach guests. I love to get little clips of the guests offering best
wishes or advice to the couple that I can include in a final edit. But as your
representative, the last thing I want to do is harass your guests. Generally speaking,
I’ll approach guests once and ask if they’d like to participate. I always try to avoid
interrupting conversations if I can. If someone says no, or they don’t feel
comfortable doing it then I take them at their word and don’t pester them.

In my experience, Grandparents usually seem to be the most likely to say, no, so if
you really want them on the video, you may want to say something to them before
the wedding.

Make Your Wedding Reception Sparkle - Decorating Tips On A Budget
By Chris Ryerson

Choosing the right decorations for a wedding reception can be a real challenge. This can be further complicated if you are trying to decorate on a tight budget. However there are tons of sources of cheap wedding decorations that can add a lot of zest and sparkle to the reception. If you plan ahead, work carefully and buy strategically you can save a ton of money while still having a beautifully decorated reception. This article will help with some practical ideas and tips for decorating your wedding reception on a budget.

Do It Yourself

One of the best ways to save money on wedding reception decorations is to do some of the work yourself. You can often buy the pieces and parts separate and then simple assemble the decorations. The great thing is you will save money, while personalizing your decorations. This will ensure that you wedding decorations look different from a standard cheap store bought ones. For example you might buy some streamers and balloons and then assemble these together in an interesting arrangement.

Buy In Bulk

Another great way which really goes along with the Do It Yourself concept is to buy in bulk whenever possible. This is easiest to do online these days as you can find many stores that will sell in large quantities. For example you can get 250 tea light or floating candles and sine you are purchasing so many at one time you will save big. Then you can use the concept from above and assemble them on your own.

Use Friends

An easy way to get the decorations done fast is to have a pre wedding decoration party with your girlfriends. Have them come over for an evening of hot soup and sandwiches and then spend the rest of the evening enjoying everyone’s company and conversation while everybody works away at assembling the decorations for the reception.

Use Candles

Buy a ton of candles in bulk and then pick up a few large glass bowls or large open vases and you have your decorations set. You can float the candles on water inside of the vases. This makes a wonderful sparkling environment for the reception that people will just love. It is simple yet very elegant and can be done with very little work. For an extra personal touch you can include some candles at each persons sitting place also.

So get started early, purchase in bulk then divide and conquer to get the assembly of your decorations done for very little expense.

Wedding Invitations! Get It Right, From The Start!
By Carmel Baird

You have decided on your wedding ceremony and your wedding reception, everything is booked. Now is the time to think about your wedding invitations. Do you have a theme for your wedding? Or are you just going with a color scheme? Either way, this will help you decide on the style of wedding invitation.

You should have a list of guests, family and friends, that you wish to invite. Having said that, you also need to decide if it will be an adults only wedding or if you will be including all the family, adults and children. You can save money with the cost of the invitations if you are including the whole family as smaller children can be included on the invitation sent to the parents, adult children sometimes like their own invitation.

With computers these days, many invitations are designed and printed on the home computer. There are some wonderful papers and styles and even computer programs especially for just this. The tone of the invitation will follow the tone of the wedding. A more formal wedding will have a more formal wedding invitations, a more relaxed, casual style wedding will have a more relaxed style of invitation.

If you don’t want to try the computer invitations, another option is the specialty packs available from stationery suppliers. They can include the invitations, place cards for the wedding reception, thank you notes and envelopes and matching stationery for personal notes etc. The next option is the printer, you can find these normally in the yellow pages and often times they will be listed under “Weddings”. Make your list, phone for appointments and get your quotes.

Whatever way you decide to go, you will need the wording for the invitations. Basically it is the four “Ws”, Who, What, Where and When.

Who– is doing the inviting, this will be the name of the host and/or hostess
What– is announcing the celebration of the marriage of…
Where– Is the place where the ceremony and reception will take place
When–is the date the happy event will occur.

Then comes the RSVP by a certain date. When you think about it, you are inviting someone to an event, your wedding, you want them to know who is inviting them, you want them to know where it is and when it is. There may be those you are only inviting to the wedding ceremony, then there will be the guests you wish to celebrate with you at both the ceremony and the wedding reception and then the guests who will be only invited to the wedding reception. So your invitations could be for three different events. You will need three different lists. Browse other wedding invitations, you will find wedding etiquette books or online sites that will help you. Start a file of the ones you like the best, then make your decision.

Six weeks before the wedding date is a good time to send the invitations out. This is considered enough time for your friends and family to organize to have the date free. Always check with the wedding caterers and/or reception venue as to when they require the definite guest numbers and remember to include the bridal party and immediate families.

When ordering invitations specially printed, order extra in case you make some mistakes when writing them out. While we’ are on the writing out of invitations, calligraphers will do this for you and give your invitations that old world feel, this of course, depends on the theme of your wedding too.

In some cultures, it is the tradition to include the RSVP and return addressed and postage stamped envelope with the invitation. This is an extra cost and not always necessary today. If you include your phone number as well as your address for the RSVP, then including the stamped, addressed envelope may be an unnecessary added cost.

Remember, inviting someone to your most special day, your wedding day, will make them feel so special.

Healing Dysfunctional Families
By Nick Arrizza, M.D.

In a recent article entitled “Some Evidence On How We
Are Spiritually Connected” I reported on a case study that revealed how individuals who share common traumatic memories can help each other release the trauma at a distance employing a new tool called the Mind Resonance Process(TM). In this article I will elaborate some of the potential applications of such a result as well as its far reaching implications.

It is well known that within family systems, for instance, the individuals therein share an entire life history of common trauma. Often this trauma may be in the form of isolated incidents experienced by one individual outside of the family setting and then brought into the family via direct contact. In other situations the trauma may be the result of relationship difficulties within the family system itself.

In the quoted study it became evident that one way of accounting for the distance healing effects was by invoking the concept of an energy field of information within which is stored, just like on the hard drive of your computer, the life history of the individual. Hence the non-local, i.e. distant, effects of one field on another could then be used to explain the distance healing results that I observed.

Now it is also clear that one s DNA, with its own energy field, was inherited from one s parents, and theirs from their parents and so on. In other words the DNA, which is in every cell of one s body and whose energy field affects and informs the energy field of the entire body is doing so with many generations of historical information embedded in it.

In other words, it could be said that one is carrying many generations of trauma, not just one s own family history or life history of trauma. Now because the field interactions ie. interpersonal and intergenerational, that result from any trauma immediately and pervasively affect everyone in the collective energy field then such individuals become negatively affected. This is hypothesized to predispose individuals within a collective field to certain emotional and/or physical illnesses.

The interesting point however is that now we have a tool that is able to release negative fragments of trauma i.e. a traumatic memory, anywhere in the collective field and this hypothetically will automatically reverberate throughout the entire collective field, across space and time. This will release the effects of such trauma on anyone who has been, is, or ever will be part of that collective field.

The effects should be somewhat similar to what was described in the experience of the individuals in the quoted study.
These include such things as a reclaiming of vital energy within individuals and within the system as a whole. What is also hypothetically possible is an entire restructuring of relational dynamics within the system. This is because the individuals will each shift to a place closer to their true or authentic selves.

What does all this mean? Well for one it means a happier and more peaceful family system that is invigorated and connected with positive loving energy rather than negative destructive energy. As I m sure you can see the implications for the larger systems such as communities or the planet as a whole is staggering.
